Fiction Story: Sehaj And Sabba Blog 8

Continued from Fiction Story: Sehaj And Sabba Blog 7

"Prophet Muhammad once said, 'Paradise lies at the feet of your mother'.

The Bible says 'God gives us mothers as a gift, and he commands that we revere them'.

There is a Marathi saying 'Swami Tinhi Jagacha, Aai Vina Bhikari' which means 'The Lord of all three worlds is still a beggar without his mother'.

Today when I stand here to address you all, I am extremely humbled. I have to give all the credit to the lady sitting there crying in the first row along with my grand-parents who have always been there for me" said Sehaj humorously pointing to Ammi, Dada and Dadi.

Sabba knew there were cameras clicking her photos, news channel reporters zooming on her face but she could not hold back her tears. Her baby was on stage, the guest of honour tonight. She was now a beautiful 22 yr old lady, the first female IAS officer from their district. Tonight they were attending a local function in her honour. Sabba looked at her in-laws seating next to her and saw their twinkling eyes. The pride clearly showing on their faces. She felt a sense of calm washing all over her.

"My mother could have easily given up after the untimely death of my father when I was merely one. But she did not give up. She chose to work two jobs, handling our family business with my grandfather during the day, take tuition classes during evening and ending her long day with night classes for completing her college studies. She even took up random jobs of tailoring to get the extra money which would help buy me some additional reference books. My grandmother was always my acting mother, feeding me all day through, nurturing me, inculcating good values in me while my mother worked late hours. My grandfather ensured that I never felt the lack of my father, he was always there for handling the tough situations I faced like eve teasing, local hooligans etc. These three people form my world and I wanted to better my world at all cost. I wanted to thank them for not getting me married off early, by investing in my further studies and not saving up for my marriage dowry. This was the burning fire in my belly, I was determined me to excel in my studies and become someone worthwhile. I now look forward to working for our district and reach out and help underprivileged people.

Likewise I would urge each one present here, to believe in some bigger goals for your own life. Work towards it and in no time it will be your reality. Together we can build a better world.

Thank you for your love and support. Thank you for making me feel special today" Sehaj bowed down to a thunderous applause from the audience, but the loudest was from the lady in the front row.

Sabba knew that life has not been all that very fair for her. But today she had the conviction that she played her best game with the cards she had been dealt with!

She looked up at the wide open sky and saw the lone twinkling star. Yes, Farhan was still there with her as a guiding light and he was definitely shining his brightest today!
